Watch the Avett Brothers Showcase Songs From Self-Titled LP for ‘Saturday Sessions’

Long-running folk act performed “Orion’s Belt,” “Country Kid” and “Forever Now” from new Rick Rubin-produced album

The Avett Brothers showcased songs from their new self-titled album during a visit to CBS Mornings’ Saturday Sessions.

Fresh off releasing their first album in five years Friday, the folk act performed the three songs that comprise the middle section of the nine-track LP: “Orion’s Belt,” “Country Kid,” and “Forever Now.”

Like its predecessors — stretching from 2009’s I and Love and You to 2019’s Closer Than TogetherThe Avett Brothers finds the band reuniting with longtime collaborator and producer Rick Rubin, who steers the group in surprisingly happier directions on their 11th studio LP of original music.

“Continuing another tradition — replacing their acoustic instruments with electric ones — the Avetts are also eager to demonstrate they’re boys who just want to have fun too,” Rolling Stone wrote in our review of the LP. “‘Orion’s Belt’ is a proficient rumble-seat approximation of the type of record Tom Petty would have continued to make had he not passed.”

The review added, “Those sorts of lurches between the solemn and the silly are any band’s right. But they’re especially jarring with the Avetts, since their somber moments are ultimately their most distinctive. When they wrap things up with ‘We Are Loved,’ the results are more cloying than usual. But for these guys, at least it confirms the importance of still being earnest.”

The Avett Brothers are in the midst of a summer-long North American tour in support of the self-titled LP, with Sierra Ferrell accompanying them on the road on their recent dates.
