- [Instructor] Let's look at the do's and don'ts of access point placement. Access points can be difficult to place because you don't always know where the busiest network users will sit, and you need to have line of sight to the devices. Otherwise, the signals can bounce everywhere and be diminished. There are rules for what you should and shouldn't do in obvious cases. Some things, however, are not quite as obvious. A heat map can help us visually see some issues and make it easier to move access points to their best location. So I always recommend a heat map. Place access points on the ceiling when possible because there'll be less interference than on a wall or on a table. Remember that we're trying to reach for line of sight from the client device to the access point. Place an access point in a conference room, for example, because you know many people are going to gather in this one location.
