Testing DNS name resolution
- [Instructor] When I talked about the ping test in the previous video, I mentioned that you could ping a machine by its IP address or by its fully qualified domain name. Occasionally though, you may find that an IP address ping succeeds, whereas a ping of a machine's fully qualified domain name fails or even returns a unexpected result. So let's take a look at what that looks like and then I'll talk about why this happens and how to fix the problem. So I've got a machine on my network called Win 11E and I'm going to ping that machine by its IP address. So I'll type ping, and that machine has an IP address of 147.100.100.231, and if I press enter, I get a reply indicating that the ping has succeeded. So keep in mind that my IP address ping did indeed succeed. So that indicates that the firewall is good and firewall ports aren't blocking our ping. So let's try another ping.
