- [Rick] In this video, we'll learn about a feature that's available on the vSphere Standard Switch and also available on the vSphere Distributed Switch called the traffic shaping. But I will warn you, the feature works a little bit differently on the distributed switch, so we'll learn more about that later. Let's focus on the vSphere Standard Switch for right now and learn about the purpose of traffic shaping. So, traffic shaping applies settings like peak bandwidth, and average bandwidth, and burst size to a port group. And so, on our diagram here, we see a single virtual machine, but let's just pretend there's a whole group of virtual machines and that group of virtual machines is connected to a specific port group on a vSphere Standard Switch. And these VMs sometimes are used to test new applications or do something that's really resource intensive. Maybe these VMs are generating a whole bunch of network traffic and…
