VM files and live states

- [Instructor] In this video, we're going to learn about some virtual machine files and the live state of a virtual machine and what those concepts mean. And so let's kind of start our discussion here by assuming that my virtual machine has been created, but it is currently powered off. Well, if my virtual machine is powered off, that means it's not actually running on any ESXi host. Nothing's happening in this VM. The VM can't just disappear when it's powered off because it's got to have an operating system installed and applications installed and all sorts of stuff like that. Those are my virtual machine files. There is a set of files that makes up every virtual machine. We'll talk about some of those files specifically a little later, but some of the critical ones are the VMDK. That's a virtual disc of a virtual machine.
