Understanding vSphere resource pools
- [Rick] In this video, we'll learn how resource pools can be used to create a container object that can be configured with shares, limits and reservations to control resource contention. So, a resource pool is simply a container object for virtual machines. I can create a resource pool, and then I can drag multiple virtual machines into that resource pool. As a matter of fact, I can even drag other resource pools inside another resource pool. So, I can have a resource pool hierarchy containing multiple resource pools. And within that resource pool, I can configure shares, limits and reservations to control access to resources across a group of virtual machines. A good use case for resource pools is to isolate and compartmentalize workloads. So, for example, I could have a resource pool that contains all of my most critical virtual machines, and maybe I would like to give that resource pool memory or CPU…
