- [Rick] In this video, we'll learn about the licensing model for vSphere, and how it has changed under Broadcom. And this is one of the most major changes to VMware and vSphere in a long time. The way that we've always done things is we've had perpetual licenses. So for example, if you buy a license for vSphere 8, you've got a license for vSphere 8 that lasts forever. And you would purchase support separately. The new licensing model is a subscription-based licensing model. So you're going to choose the duration of your subscription, and when your subscription runs out, that's that. So it's not a perpetual license anymore that lasts as long as you have the product. You're going to have to pay a subscription. So let's talk about some of the frequently asked questions when it comes to these new licenses.
