- If you really don't have the hardware to install virtual machines yourself, you can always go for virtual machines in cloud. Free-tier virtual machines are provided by most public cloud providers. But there is one important thing to realize, and that is that the cloud is taking over specific functionality from the operating system. So boot loaders, for instance, are normally not accessible from cloud. So if you want to learn virtual machines to learn a new operating system like Linux, there is really nothing better than a real virtual machine. Nevertheless, if it's helpful for you, go have a look at the public cloud. Let me show you how it works on Google Cloud.
