- So after creating a machine in VirtualBox, you can see currently it's powered off, you might want to manage some of the hardware settings. So how are you going to do that? Well, you can see the storage option, for instance, right here, where there are the storage devices, with the controller IDE, and an empty CD drive, and a controller Seta with the Ubuntu workstation, VDI, that's your virtual disk. You want to add a disc? Just click plus to add a hard disk. So what am I going to do? Well, I am going to create a new hard disk, and that is giving me the virtual hard disk file type. You have different disc image types, and these disc image types really aren't very important. I would say, just go for the default, which is the VirtualBox disk image. The only reason why this might be important is when you want to make sure that you can use a virtual machine from VirtualBox in another virtualization solution.
