Still images: Finding depth and meaning within photos
- The primary visual elements of most video projects consist of, well, various types of video. But I'd like to talk about one asset that is often very important, especially in unscripted programs. And that is the still image: photographs, maps, graphics, screenshots. These can all provide valuable insight into your story and complement your visual style, particularly when video is not available. This is often the case for documentaries or reality programming. When you're telling stories about real people, places, and events throughout history, photos and other still media are often more accessible than video. And even when original still images aren't available, you can often find representative stills to directly or indirectly or even metaphorically help you visually tell your story.
