- With our anxiety habit loops mapped, we can do a lot, but I want to empower you a little bit more with a few helpful concepts I've learned over the years. In physics, there's a term called the Observer Effect. The observer effect refers to the impact or the influence of the act of observation on the phenomenon being observed. It suggests that the act of measuring or observing a physical system can alter or disturb the system, leading to changes in the system's behavior or properties. Put another way, the observer effect suggests that the very act of observing a system can influence the outcome or properties of the system being observed. In psychology, this effect is called the Hawthorne Effect. Experimenters started realizing that the act of observing participants in psychological experiments changed the results.
