Demo of using AI to get career coaching

- So now I'm going to use Claude to help me with this demo. Claude is currently my favorite AI tool to use. It's my default that I go to, but I still use the other ones because they're always vying for each other for the top spot. Right, let me put my prompt in here. Now, the prompt here, what it's going to do is it's going to start asking me questions. It's going to interview me because I'm going to rewind here and pretend that I am a junior copywriter like I used to be, my goodness, nearly 30 years ago. Or in fact, it was 30 years ago, my goodness. (laughs) So I'm going to pretend that I'm a junior copywriter and it's going to give me some advice. So I'll be able to understand as somebody who then went on to manage creative departments, I will understand if the advice it's giving me is good advice. So you don't have to listen into this, but you can, if you want, slow down the video and have a look, pause it in places and see what information I'm giving it and what kind of response I'm getting back. So the first question it's giving me is, "I'll help you explore your career situation, develop a tailored plan. Let's start with understanding your current role. What is your current job title and what are your main responsibilities in your role?" Now another thing is, I'm going to do this by talking, Claude doesn't have a speech recognition thing built into it, but I'm going to use my computer's speech recognition. On my Mac, I just double click the Ctrl key and it then will give me the option to be able to talk, as you're seeing here, into the prompt box. So I will delete all of this and I will then have a conversation. Fast forward. (static buzzing) Wow, so I've just read through the advice that it has given me there and I've got to say that all the advice that I would give a junior copywriter it has given me here, it's given really, really good advice. So for example, it's here's an assessment of the current situation that I put in. Great, so now's the action plan. Here, so portfolio development. So as a copywriter, you have a portfolio that shows your best work so that when you go to get another job, people can flick through your portfolio and go, "That's really good, that's really good. We want you to do that kind of work for us." And that's a really important part of your career. So portfolio development, absolutely, and this is what I would definitely recommend for somebody who finds that they're working in a situation where they don't get the big opportunities to do great work is you do it yourself for imaginary clients and you put that in your portfolio. Spec works, speculative work. Document how effective your stuff is, build case studies of your best work. And this is an important thing that I always recommend to people in the creative industries is to have a side project that is your opportunity to do really pure creative work. So that's great. Skill building is fantastic. Network building, really important. And it's got some great advice here, like this one here that I always recommend is find a mentor who's senior. It's wonderful, annual milestones to help you understand how you're progressing. Tools and platforms, events, things to read. Oh, this is absolutely great. The advice here is really, really good. And it's more than I would be able to do if somebody was emailing me for advice, there's more advice in here than I would be able to put into an email. So it's actually really, really strong, really powerful. So if you're wanting to get career coaching, I wish that I had had this advice when I was a junior in my career. It would really have helped me. I hope that if you're looking for career progression, whatever stage you're at, this prompt will be able to help you. Go for it, and I really hope you get that promotion. Good luck.
