Clean up source data

Most of the time the data you bring into Tableau will be pretty clean. You will have Excel workbooks that contains single tables with no incorrect values, or you might connect to similar sources. However, there will be times when you find that your data isn't formatted as cleanly as it should be, and Tableau has a hard time reading it. In this movie, I will show you how to use the data interpreter to clean up your data. That's the tool found within Tableau, but you also might be able to examine your data source visually and come up with a solution on your own. I have started Tableau and I can create a connection to an external source. So I'll go over to the connect pane, click Microsoft Excel and then double click Clean Up Data. That'll be my source file. So there we go. And then in the connections interface in Tableau I will drag sheet 1 over. So I'll drag that over to the drag tables here area.
