Adding steel columns to the model
Now that we have a structural grid in place and also our levels in place adding geometry such as columns is going to be a snap. In Revit under models let's go open. Browse where you're keeping your exercise files and in chapter 2 I'm going to grab structural 0202. Then I'm going to click open. In the project browser under Views All Structural Plans. Let's go down to level 1. Let's go to the Structure tab. Click the Column button. Now let's see what we've got. In our Properties, click the drop-down right here. We have a Wide Flange Column when we have Concrete Rectangular Columns. We'll use both of these as we go through this course. In this case here let's grab a w-shaped column and let's stick with a 10 by 49. W 10 by 49. Now since we're on level 1 structurally we always want to look down but in this case we want our column to go up. Notice on our options toolbar, we can set the depth to height.
