The value of process mining

- In the late 1900's, Frederick Taylor developed a factory management system to increase efficiency by evaluating every step in a manufacturing process. For instance, in steel mills, Taylor studied how men shoveled coal into furnaces, measuring speed, method, and efficiency based on technique and the size of the shovel. Taylor's science was very methodical. It was also very manual. But these time studies helped launch the science of process improvement and transformation. Now let's fast forward to when the internet was young and the seeds of digital process mining were taking root. Operations people saw massive potential in mining digital process data in order to analyze and improve how work was done. They saw a better way to understand enterprise processes using data science.
