- Finally, when you have a number of options for how to solve a problem and you're choosing between them, always consider the implementation as well as the solution itself. Maybe the solution that's best is going to be really hard to implement. This should be included in the factors and often gets forgotten. For example, if you're thinking of upgrading all the computers in your organization, implementation is going to be quite a big deal, quite a large part of the overall cost. I used to work for a company that made printing presses and one of the things that customers had never considered but luckily we had, because we'd seen it before, was how to get the finished printing press into the building. Usually we had to knock down a wall to get it in, so implementation was a considerable extra cost.
