- [Instructor] The European Union's Artificial Intelligence Act is a long and complex document. It contains a ton of legalese, which means that the language is often better suited for a courtroom than a boardroom. Luckily, the AI Act comes equipped with a glossary of important terms. Article 3 includes 68 definitions for terms and phrases used frequently throughout the AI Act. We won't cover them all, but I'd like to highlight a few that I'll use frequently in this course. First, the AI Act defines an AI system as a machine-based system designed to operate autonomously and exhibit adaptive behaviors after deployment. The machines can infer based on inputs they receive, generate predictions, content, recommendations, and definitions, or influence physical or virtual environments.
