Scenario maps to set the scene
- So far, all the map types I've described have depicted the current state of the system, with all the pain points and user issues that you've found in your research. Now, we're moving onto maps that show your ideal future state. The first of these is scenario maps. Scenario maps show a detailed story about a specific individual performing a single task. They step through each part of the process, describing what the user does and how the system responds. Although each scenario should be achievable, you shouldn't get bogged down in actual implementation details. Scenario maps are an integral part of the design thinking process. After you've identified user pain points and ideated some potential solutions, you'll use scenario maps to describe how users would ideally complete their tasks.
