What is a strong correlation?

What is a strong correlation?

- [Instructor] So let's talk a little bit about correlation. Correlation is certainly a recurring theme of our course. But folks that deal with data on a day-to-day basis are probably quite familiar with correlation. I just want to take a moment to talk a bit about magnitude and direction of correlation relationships. So the first correlation I have up here is a Pearson correlation and that's a name that we're going to be hearing again. Karl Pearson is a famous name in statistics. And we're going to be looking at the correlation between displacement and horsepower. And those both involve the power of the engine. So we would expect that correlation to be quite high, and it is indeed. That correlation is .89. Very high. You would rarely find a correlation that high if it wasn't this kind of engineering type data. By the way, this is a famous dataset that's been around for many years. I'm providing a modified version of it…
