Comparing CRISP-DM and the scientific method
- [Instructor] I had a powerful experience a few years ago. I asked a university group I was teaching online to comment in the discussion forum about the similarities that they might see between CRISP-DM and the scientific method. I was expecting that everyone would see that they're really quite different, but the vast majority of the a group was certain that the two, CRISP-DM and the scientific method, were the same. I was a bit shocked, but I was outvoted so utterly that it shook my confidence even though I was the one leading the discussion. I reached out to two of the original authors of CRISP-DM that I know. It's worth mentioning that there's no equivalent resource for the scientific method and there's no official version of it but most versions are pretty similar.
