Rendering in After Effects can be simple. As we've seen, you can choose a name and destination, click a button, and it's done. But most of the rendering happens as you work. Understanding the process better will save you time and improve your result. So by now you're familiar with the blue and green line that appears above the timeline. But what does it mean? The blue frames are the ones that have been cached to disk. And so After Effects has saved those for you for future playback. The green ones are cached to physical memory. That memory disappears as you work, but as soon as I press Spacebar, the green bar is restored and I have real-time playback. And up in my Info panel, it even shows me playback is real-time. Now if I want to control how this is working, There is a helpful extra column here, which is Render Time. And this is going to give me an indication of how long each layer is taking to render. I'm going to turn on this Adjustment Layer, and that one is taking a lot longer…
