- Just because you can automate it, doesn't necessarily mean you should. In fact, there are a few automobile companies that have faced problems with too much automation in the past few years. For one company, trying to fully automate the assembly process created extremely complex belt systems that actually hindered production capacity and had high maintenance costs. It all had to be scrapped. For another company, manual production at one factory gave way to complete automation over time, but as the industry demand shifted towards smaller product batches rather than mass production, it actually became more efficient to reintroduce human workers back into the assembly lens. This lesson applies to RPA in spades. After all, it is but one tool in your toolkit. Don't try to shoehorn RPA into solving problems it's not built to solve, especially when there might be other solutions available, like cognitive technologies…
