- [Instructor] In this lesson, we're going to be talking about the routing mechanisms within the SD-WAN solution. Now, to start with, I want to revisit a topic from Lesson 1, the Overlay Management Protocol, or OMP for short. Now, OMP is the routing protocol that we use within SD-WAN. Now, we talked about how it was very similar to BGP and the fact that it uses TCP, which allows us to provide multiple hops away. This allows for OMP to operate outside of the data plane, unlike interior gateway protocols, which require to operate within the data plane. Now, one of the nice things about OMP is it's architected basically off of how BGP route reflectors are, and so that allows us so that our edge devices do not have to peer with one another. Now, one of the things that's kind of funny is when you think about route reflectors, I think they're kind of stupid, but in our solution, they're very intelligent. As a matter of fact, we actually called them smart. It's called vSmarts for a reason…
