Identifying opportunities to benefit from AI
One of the most common questions I get asked is how do I use ChatGPT as part of my job? It comes in a close second to excuse me, did you put your hair on upside down? But let's focus on the AI question for now. The biggest mistake people make when it comes to generative AI like ChatGPT is thinking their tasks are just one thing. They enter requests like "Write me a script for a video about Freeform Jazz or write a blog post about the history of cheese." But these tasks aren't single units. They're actually a collection of smaller tasks. Let's take the video script, for example. Let's break it down into its smaller tasks. We've got, do your research on Freeform Jazz, Define your point of view, outline the main points, write a script, edit the script, come up with video titles, and write a video description. You might split this up differently, but you get the drift. No. We need to place each of these smaller tasks into one of three rows. Tasks I'll do, tasks the AI will do, and slap bang in the middle, tasks I'll do in collaboration with AI. Anything that makes it into the top two rows is going to need some prompt writing. And if you want to learn how to write effective prompts, you should probably take my course, "How to Research and Write Using Generative AI Tools." Just saying. I recommend that you do this exercise for lots of the tasks that you regularly perform. It will help you identify opportunities to benefit from AI in your work. I've created a template to help you do this exercise. You'll find a link to it at the page that I've created for you right here. And hey, if you do decide to create that video and how great Freeform Jazz is, please don't send me a link. Not interested. Thanks.
