Removing lens distortion in After Effects
- If you capture video on a wider angle camera, you'll often see lens distortion. This is typically true for things like drones, but also for many action cameras or even DSLRs or cinema cameras. It's quite possible to get quite a bit of distortion in the footage. But After Effects makes it easy to compensate, especially if you know a little bit about the lens. Let's take a look here at two different clips. We'll start here with clip number one. Here we have a driving shot with a wide angle lens. You definitely see how items are bending and leaning from the lens itself. This was shot on a DJI Osmo, which is similar to the camera that they use in their drones. It's a small gimbal that we had attached to the outside of the vehicle. If you take a look here, I've already applied the optics compensation. In this case, I was able to put in the field of view.
