- [Instructor] Adding computer memory is the least expensive way to improve performance for an older computer. You can add to existing memory or replace memory. The goal is to increase memory capacity. The good news is that you can perform this upgrade yourself and the cost isn't too outrageous. The upgrade process involves three steps: discover how much memory is in your computer, use an online analyzer to determine potential upgrades, purchase and install the memory. Crucial.com is one of many websites that sell memory upgrades. This site features a memory analysis tool which I've run here, to judge this computer's memory capacity and upgrade potential. As you can see, the computer currently has one eight-gigabyte dib installed. I can replace this with two 16-gigabyte dibs to bring the total memory capacity up to 32 gigabytes.
