Selecting and testing your hardware
- [Instructor] When we're working with Hashcat, we'll need to know about our platforms and our devices. In this context, a platform is the software stack we're using to access a device. These devices are the CPU or GPU or accelerator hardware. If we have OpenCL or one of its implementations installed, we'll see the OpenCL platforms available to use. Or if we have vendor-specific tools like KUDO or RM installed, we'll also be able to access the related devices directly. Hashcat will automatically select what it thinks is the best device or device and platform combination, and if we have one or more GPUs, that's what Hashcat will use. But it's good to take a look and see what all the options are. As we've seen, I can get my Hashcat backend information with Hashcat-I. For example, here on my system, I have two OpenCL platforms installed. One is the Intel OpenCL platform and the other is the NVIDIA CUDA OpenCL platform.
