Using conditional formatting

- [Instructor] Conditional formatting allows you to automatically apply text formatting or change the background color of one or more cells based on the value of the cell. With conditional formatting, you set up a rule that changes the formatting of each cell that meets certain criteria. Let's walk through the process of creating a conditional formatting rule and look at how it works. I'll show you on this sales data spreadsheet. The first thing I want to do here is highlight any sales where my stock might be running low. I'd like to color the cell orange for any item on the list where the percent of stock items sold is greater than or equal to 90%, then I'll know where I need to restock. First, I'll select the whole column, Percent of stock items sold, column E, then I'll click the Format menu and select Conditional Formatting. The Conditional format rules tool pops up.
