Open a PBIX file with Power BI Desktop

- [Instructor] The PBIX file type was created so that we could save files in Power BI Desktop. Files that we create in Power BI Service are automatically saved in the Power BI service, but I needed to be able to save, for example, to SharePoint or to OneDrive, network share from Power BI Desktop. And that's what this file type is for, but that makes it a portable file. I can save a file as a PBIX file and send it to someone else. That file will create reports and semantic models. However, PBIX files cannot contain dashboards. So if I want to save a dashboard, the only place I can really do that is in the Power BI Service. And if I receive a PBIX file, it won't contain a dashboard. I would note that I won't be surprised if in the near future, we're able to save dashboards in PBIX files, maybe next year, maybe the year after. But right now, if you open a PBIX file, don't look for a dashboard in there. And because I can attach a PBIX file to an email or save it anywhere I wish, this…
