Finding and accessing GIS
GIS software lets you put your own world, the data that's important to your organization onto the map. Put simply, you can access GIS through web maps and apps, or through desktop software, which can be set up as part of an enterprise platform. Geospatial-enabled devices can feed location and services back to your maps. Suppose you work for a company that has offices, warehouses, and factories all over the world, you could create a GIS-based web app for the company. Everyone sees the complete set of data about the company's staff and facilities, and the maps are updated in real time as new data is entered. Most companies using GIS have a desktop GIS software to create and manage their geospatial data and to create a system of record to keep historic versions. A desktop GIS software is much more powerful, allowing for the management of huge data sets for machine-intensive spatial analysis. The Esri desktop software is called ArcGIS Pro.
