Essential map comprehension
You may be used to looking at navigational maps on your phone, but it's rare to have to really understand the fine details on those maps. I mean, generally, I just listen to know when I have to turn and in which direction. But when looking at a GIS map, it's important to understand a bit about map reading and map comprehension. So I'm going to go over a few essentials. First, every map should have a legend or a table of contents that explains the layers on the map and explains the colors and symbols that were used for each layer. So the first thing you should do when you look at a GIS map, or any map for that matter, is to look for a legend so that you can understand what the colors and symbols on the map mean. The next important thing to understand about the map is what part of the world this map is showing.
