Drill down to the underlying data
- [Instructor] Pivot tables enable you to find a specific data points within your set. For example, if you wanted to know the total value of sales of electric vehicle chargers made by sales associates, then you could create this pivot table and look at cell C5 where you have the EV charger column intersecting with the Sales Associate row. What it doesn't tell you is what the data is that went into creating that total. However, you can find that, in most cases, by drilling down within a pivot table. To drill down and see the rows of data that contribute to a particular cell, double-click the cell. So in this case, I will double-click cell C5, and Excel creates a new worksheet called Detail1 that shows the three rows with data that contributed to the total. There are a couple of things that I'll point out. The first is that all of the fields from the original data source are included, not just those that are in the pivot table.
