- Once you've built your store and you've done some marketing to get people to your site you're going to start getting orders. You did it. Now you have to figure out how to get the product to those customers. Shipping an item to a customer is called fulfillment. The first thing I want to stress is that you don't have to have the perfect plan on day one. There are lots of ways to ship products which might seem overwhelming at first but with the technology we have today if you want to switch from one system to another it actually isn't all that much work so don't worry about getting it perfect before launch. In some cases, it's as simple as clicking a few buttons. When it's easy to switch we say you have low switching costs.
