From the course: DevOps Foundations: Monitoring and Observability

What you need to know

- [Instructor] I'll take you through the different pillars of observability, types of monitoring and how they can be applied to improve your understanding of how services, infrastructure, and applications work. While observability is usually owned by specific teams, different teams have a part to play as well as a huge gain if they invest in it. For this reason, I recommend this course for software engineers, DevOps/SRE or observability engineers who want to understand the foundations of observability. Because product managers are also invested in metrics and KPIs, understanding the potential use cases and outcomes of observability could improve how they approach implementing these. This course could also be a precursor to empowering them to drive the observability culture in their engineering teams. If this sounds like you, then this course is definitely for you. To follow along in this course, it'll be helpful to have basic knowledge of IT, development or product management experience. However, if you are new to this, you can follow along, as well as watch other videos in the DevOps Foundation series to deepen your understanding. As for technologies, I'll be using Grafana Cloud to explore some demos as well. For Grafana Cloud, I'll be using the free tier account, which should be sufficient for us to get through this course, and even for small teams who are looking to explore observability on a small scale.
