Using a GREP style to fix kerning problems
- [Instructor] We've seen how to use a GREP style to fix short last lines. Here's another usage. I'm on page 11 and I'm going to zoom in on line five. We have an apostrophe. There are numerous apostrophes throughout this book. Let's get even bigger, and it looks to me like there's too much space on the right hand side of that apostrophe. You may remember that when we set up the paragraph styles, I discussed briefly the automatic kerning method. We're using metrics kerning here. The value's decided by the type designer, and they work just fine, except, in my opinion, for this particular character. If I select the apostrophe and change its automatic kerning method to optical, you can see that that space is tightened. Now, obviously, I don't want to have to go through the book and do that on a case by case basis, so let's come to the Character Styles and create a new character style.
