Adding page numbers

- [Instructor] There are a number of steps we still need to take to finesse the way the text is flowing and the way the lines are breaking. But for now, let's change tack and take a look at the parent pages. So on the parent pages, we want to add page numbers and a running header. We will also need to create a couple of additional parent pages. Currently we just have the one parent page spread. Let's go to it by double-clicking on its name. First thing I'd like to do is come to the Layout menu and choose Create Guides. One row, one column, fit guides to margins. And you can see that's just put guides around my type area. The reason I've done that is so that I can now use my type tool. Press T to access the type tool. Draw a text frame above my top margin that goes from guide to guide. Into this text frame, I want to add a page number. Right-click, Insert Special Character, Markers, Current Page Number. For my page numbers and running headers, I'm going to use the San serif font, the ITC Franklin Gothic. I'll press command-A to select the text. I'm using the condensed demi weight. It's going to be nine points. I'm going to change its alignment to this last option, align away from spine. That's not going to change the appearance of this text but when I duplicate this onto the facing page, the copy of the text frame will be aligned to the outside margin. Let's just get in a bit bigger so that we can see what we're doing. To position this text frame relative to the type area, I'm going to double-click on its bottom center handle to fit the frame to the content. Then I will move that down so that it now sits exactly on the top margin. And then coming to my Y value, after the current value, I will type in minus 16. And if you're not in points as your unit of measurement, then type in the PT after that. That's going to move it up one line space. I'll zoom out and now to duplicate that onto the right facing page, I'll hold down the Option or Alt key and the Shift key as I start dragging so that I constrain the movement and make a copy.
