Understanding the flat file workflow
- Before we wrap our discussion on XML workflows, I want to talk about an alternative to the XML workflow, because you're probably likely to hear about this, either online or from a client or another creative. And that's the flat file workflow. What's flat file? Well, remember how we exported out a reference movie? That's a flat file. It is a bunch of individual shots rendered out into one single clip. In theory, if you render that out into a high enough resolution, then you could use that as a source for color correction and final finishing. Now, what are some of the rules surrounding that? Well, the first thing you want to do is don't do what we do. You don't want to render out like a proxy. You want to render out a high quality movie that can encapsulate all of the data of your camera originals, because the whole point of the flat file workflow is to simplify the process, to ensure that every decision made in say…
