A note about fixing stuttering playback
- Because a lot of people sometimes skip some of the opening movies in a training course like this, and because you will probably run into this if you do that which is you're going to run into stuttering playback because we've got these H264 files, these clips that are being played back. Now, I want to point out two things here. One, if you're running into that problem don't know how to solve it, go back to the opening chapter in this course because we created proxies that will allow for nice smooth buttery playback. And I thought this would be a good opportunity to take a look at how those proxies are saved and why I prefer the proxy workflow here in DaVinci Resolve over the optimized media workflow because there's another choice in here which is to create optimized media. And the problem with optimized media is you can't do anything with it. It exists on your system. The clips are named in a very bizarre kind of way. Whereas proxy media can actually be moved from system to system. You can relink back to proxy media, if for some reason your computer gets unlinked. Let's take a look at what that proxy media looks like which we generated earlier in this course. And what I'm going to do is toggle over to my desktop and I'm going to come down to the learning cut page proxies folder that we created in the introductory chapter. And I'm just going to double click down and you'll see that it's recreated the file path that we're saving to. And as I dig down into this file path there we go, it's coming down to our B roll and our interviews and it's actually recreating that folder structure of the original source footage, and it's turned them into .movs. Remember, we did these as QuickTime proxies, .mov files. So the MP4s are now .movs and it's replicated that folder structure. And that's the beautiful thing about proxies. I can now take that proxies folder that's sitting, in this case on my desktop, put it on a hard drive, take the project, the DaVinci Resolve project, bring that with me on my laptop relink back to those proxies, and I'll be good to go.
