What to ask yourself as you look for inclusive imagery
- [Instructor] It's more common now than ever before for people to have gender related or racial and ethnic related diversity in mind when they create content. This should be celebrated. However, there is still work to be done if our goal is to be as inclusive as possible. I've developed a set of questions that I ask myself as I try to find inclusive images for my content. I specifically look for markers of diversity in age, body size and shape, use of assistive technologies, and socioeconomic expression. I want to acknowledge that sometimes the strategic purpose of an image is to represent one specific group, at the cost of being more representative to others. If that's the case, I suggest looking for diversity within that group. For example, if you are targeting people who identify as women, rather than including people who identify as men, just for the sake of diversity, you could look for racial or ethnic diversity.…
