What you need for this course
There are some things you will want to have at hand if you'd like to work along with me. The first is you will need to have Microsoft Teams. I'm running the new version of Microsoft Teams that is designated for use at work or school. It looks like this as a standalone desktop app, and it looks like this in a browser. If you're using Teams in a browser and you want the desktop app, click on settings and more and choose Download the Desktop app. This is also where you can verify that you are running new Teams, which is the version we're running o take advantage of some of these built in connections. You don't have to have the desktop app, but if you want your experience to look the most similar to mine, that it can, then go ahead and download the app and install it on your computer. You also need to have access to SharePoint online, which is also called SharePoint for Microsoft 365. If you're working in teams, you have access to it. You just might not have been there, but you might need a little more permission than you already have. If you are trying to, for example, create a site, which is one of the things that we will do in the course, and you can't talk to your SharePoint administrator and ask them to change your permissions so that you can create a site, and then you'll be the site owner. Again, you may already have these permissions from Microsoft Teams. I'm assuming that you have some experience using Teams before you start this course. You should know basically what Teams does and have spent a little time at least working in it. It's okay if you don't know as much about SharePoint. I assume as a Teams user, you may not know as much about SharePoint as you would like to know. So if you just know it's a product that sits out there, you're probably going to be fine. But I think if you don't have some lived experience in Teams, this course won't be as beneficial as it might be if you had spent some time working in Teams with other people. Even if you run teams in the desktop, you're running SharePoint in the browser and so let's take a look at what you need to have from a software perspective. You need to be running Windows 10 or 11, preferably 11, and your browser should be the latest version of either Microsoft Edge, Firefox or Google Chrome. If you are a Mac user, you'll want to use the latest versions of Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, or Google Chrome. So, after you've examined your software and made sure you're ready to go, let's continue.
