Understanding hybrid clouds
- Hybrid clouds are traditionally paired with public and private clouds. However, the hybrid cloud has also taken on new meaning in recent years, including more traditional systems working with a public cloud. Thus, we'll use the more inclusive definition here. Hybrid clouds could be an OpenStack based private cloud running in your data center, working with the AWS Public Cloud, or an Edge cloud, such as AWS Outpost, which is a subset of AWS you can run within your data center that is working with the AWS Public Cloud. Even though both are AWS, the on-premise version of AWS that you're leveraging makes it an example of a hybrid cloud. Or a hybrid cloud could be a mainframe system that works with Microsoft Azure Cloud, where the mainframe is used as a data server for the processes and applications in the Azure public cloud.
