Before getting into those specific tools, though, I wanted to set the context by describing something called the DevOps lifecycle. And we'll see where those specific tools fit in to this lifecycle. Let's go back in time just a bit. We traditionally in large enterprise networks had one group that did software development and another group that did IT operations. They often essentially operated in silos. There was not a great deal of interaction between the groups. They were in different departments under different management structures. And when something did not go well or broke, there might've been some finger-pointing and blaming going on between the groups.
