Create and manage layers (OVERVIEW)
- [Instructor] In this chapter, we're going to be taking a look at application and drawing management, and we're going to cover various sections within the chapter, as well. And as we go through these, these sections in the chapter will relate to the topics in the exam format. Now, in the files that you download for this particular course, there is a PDF that lists all of those topics, and these chapters and sections relate to all of those topics. So as you work your way through, you'll kind of figure that out as you go. So we are looking at application and drawing management in this chapter. And the first topic that we're going to be looking at in this chapter is create and manage layers. Now, for this particular section, we've got two drawings that you're going to be using. Now, you'll download these from the library where you download the exercise files, and the first drawing you will open is the New Office Proposal.dwg file. You can see it on the screen there. Now, it also has an attached external reference file, an Xref, which is this one here, you can see there's an Xref there. Can you see External Reference pops up? Now, that should be in the same folder as the New Office Proposal.dwg file. If it isn't, you may get an error popping up, and if you've worked with external references before, it's using a relative file path. Now we will touch on that later on in the section, as well. So I'll just hit Escape there, just to deselect the Xref. So you need the New Office Proposal.dwg file, and if I just pop to the Insert tab here and go to the Reference flyer arrow there, there you go, you can see there that we also have the Landscaping Area.dwg file, and that is our loaded external reference file that is in the same folder as the New Office Proposal drawing. Now, I'm just going to close the External References palette, so we're back in the drawing. And what we're going to take a look at, like I said, is how we create and manage layers in this particular section of the chapter. So ideally, you want to be in the Home tab on the ribbon, and you want to be looking at your Layers panel here. We're going to be looking at layer properties and how we work with those layers in our AutoCAD drawings. So let's move along to the next video now where we start going through the topics that are relevant to your AutoCAD certified professional exam.
