Building an Ubuntu server
- [Instructor] Building a server for home use or for use in an organization is a great way to learn about system configuration and administration and provides an opportunity to maintain control of your files and services. I'm Scott Simpson. And in this LinkedIn Learning Course, we'll set up a Linux computer to manage media, file sharing and self hosted cloud services. We'll use Ubuntu Server, a very popular distribution of Linux. And along the way, I'll show you some system administration basics including how to set up new software, how to add hard drives, how to configure the network and firewall and we'll see how to allow your server to provide services. You can access from your smartphone, your tablet or a computer inside or outside your network. In the course, I'll make some recommendations for hardware that's worked out well for me. But I encourage you to look for hardware that fits your budget and requirements. You could even dust off that old PC tower that's been hiding in your closet since your last upgrade. Whether you're building a lab server as a platform for developing your skills or setting up a server that will provide reliable service for you or for others. I hope you'll join me in this LinkedIn Learning Course. Let's go.
