From the course: Building a Cloud Architecture Diagram
What you need to know
- [Instructor] Here's what I think you need to know and have to get the best experience from this class. First of all, you have a real need to get organized in regards to creating useful visual documentation. Perhaps you currently have projects running in the cloud or you will have some future projects that will be cloud hosted and you need some good documentation. As a side note, troubleshooting becomes much easier once you fully document what you have. If you do a good job, your documentation will come in really handy when there's problems. Optionally, having some knowledge of cloud architecture such as as Azure, Google, or AWS, it could be helpful, but maybe it's not necessary. Maybe you're the head of a team or an executive that will be driving the bus, so to speak, and you will be insisting on good documentation but you may not actually be using or viewing this documentation. The person that's going to draw, create the cloud architect diagrams is going to need a device, a computer probably the best bet, either a Mac or Windows with browser access to the internet in order to be able to use some of the drawing tools that we'll talk about in this class. You may also want to consider investing in some sort of centralized cloud storage like Box or OneDrive or Dropbox. This will provide a location for your organization's storage of the cloud documentation that you're going to create. And finally, perhaps the need for good documentation and the understanding of how documentation can be created might be enough of an impetus to consider taking this course.
