- [Instructor] I'm a psychology professor and if there's one thing I can tell you for sure, it's that people are hard to understand. And that's why, after more than two decades, I'm still working at it. But you don't have to understand people completely to be able to predict their behavior perfectly in order to accomplish something worthwhile. Really, all you need is more insight and better predictions than you might have had otherwise. And this is where we come into the field of predictive analytics. But first I want to mention that there are two different meanings to the word predict and predictive analytics. The first is to use the standard one, that is to look into the future, say what's going to happen at some later point in time. So we're talking about future events. But also, in predictive analytics, a very common use is to talk about alternative events. So maybe not in the future, but what would happen if an algorithm were to classify photos? Could it do it in the same way…
