Context techniques
- Are you seeing the forest through the trees or is your backlog a huge mess of trees where you are walking around lost not knowing where anything fits into the bigger picture? We looked at product decomposition maps as a technique to see the big picture, and they are one of the handful of visual techniques you can use to help with context. Context is about seeing the bigger picture and it's so important to Agile teams. It's critical to helping our product owner and team make good decisions. We don't just accept the backlog as is and work through it like a checklist. Instead, it's all about analyzing and making sure we have the right stuff in the backlog. We use context to drive a shared understanding so that we understand what's important to the user and why. A few commonly use context techniques include context diagrams, process models, data flow diagrams, customer journey maps, and user story maps.
