- Have you ever experienced an all hands on deck situation? For many, this comes in a time of crisis. Everyone drops what they're currently working on to focus on the one thing together as a team. When this happens, the group has limited their WIP, or work in progress, to this one item everyone's focused on, and it works. In a crisis, it's typical to assemble a cross-functional team and everyone's focused on the same goal, outcome, and works together to get it done. The extreme focus also begets better quality and speed as interruptions and changing focus does not slow the team down. When we focus, we finish. But we do not have to be in a crisis for this to be an effective approach. Focus and limiting WIP is working as a sustainable practice. For many agile teams, the key is effective prioritization and expectations.
