- [Instructor] In addition to the elements we just discussed, good design follows several principles to lay out, enhance interest, direct the viewer's gaze and take your project from ordinary to professional. Our first principle of design is alignment. Alignment means how things line up with each other. When objects are aligned, they produce a visual connection with each other as a way of both grouping like elements together, while also providing balance in a sense that everything is in its place. Elements of different types can be aligned with each other, text with graphics, images with other images, and those elements can also align with the page or document bounds as well. Alignment can be based on the object's edges, top, bottom, left or right, or its vertical and horizontal centers, and can be used to describe the relationship between it and other elements.
