Crafting effective ChatGPT prompts for optimal results
Let's talk about some basic prompting best practices. As a general rule, prompts should be as short, simple, and specific as possible. Prompts must be short enough to fit within the character limit, which varies, but is about 4000 characters at the time of this recording. If prompts are too complex, it's unlikely ChatGPT will correctly apply all parts of the prompt effectively. And if prompts are too vague or generalized, we aren't likely to get a response we can use. Once we have that first response, we can use follow-up prompts to build upon, revise, update, and improve that response. In addition to keeping our prompts simple and specific, there are three key elements to include in an effective prompt: who, what, and how. Including a who in your prompt means telling the tool who to be while compiling a response to your prompt.
